Crowns in Mobile, AL
Dental crowns are one of the most utilized dental treatments in existence. A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” made of metal, ceramic, or a combination of the two that is placed over the prepared tooth to restore its optimal form and function. Porcelain crowns are most often preferred because they mimic the translucency of natural teeth and are very strong. A crown is cemented into place and covers the entirety of the tooth that appears above the gum line. The result is a replacement tooth that looks and feels just like the natural tooth.
At Mobile Comprehensive Dentistry, we are pleased to offer the ultimate in digital dentistry with CEREC same day, one appointment dental restorations. Our primary concern, like yours, is helping you keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright!
When is a Dental Crown Needed?
There are many different situations that call for crown treatment. If Dr. O’Donnell or Dr. Willis recommend a crown, it is probably to correct one of these conditions:
- To rebuild decayed or broken teeth that are not candidates for fillings
- To cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped
- To add structural support and enhanced aesthetics to a damaged tooth
- To hold a dental bridge in place
- To restore tooth structure to a tooth that has received root canal therapy
- Crowns also serve as the finishing touches to dental implants.
What is Involved in the Procedure?
A tooth requires preparation prior to the placement of a crown. Dr. O'Donnell or Dr. Willis will gently file down the tooth to make room for the crown. If there is not enough natural tooth structure left, a buildup will often be required to create a solid foundation. With CEREC technology, our office is able to create, model and design each crown on site. You leave in one visit with your permanent restoration in place. Mobile Comprehensive Dentistry is proud to offer this innovative technology to patients. It is one of the many reasons patients love coming to us for all of their restorative dental needs.
